Not every screening is worth doing every year, and a good preventive plan is as much about what you leave out as what you include.
The ones that consistently earn their place
Blood pressure at every contact. A yearly blood panel covering kidney function, cholesterol and blood sugar. Colorectal cancer screening on the schedule your country recommends. An eye examination, because falls follow poor vision more often than families expect.
The ones to discuss first
Whole-body scans and broad tumour-marker panels sound reassuring and rarely are: they find harmless things that lead to more tests. Ask the doctor what they would do differently depending on the result. If the answer is nothing, the test can usually wait.
