National record
Vellum Health had eleven years of outcomes data and no public voice. We built the narrative around the data, placed the chief medical officer as the person who could explain it, and ran a six-week briefing tour.
Live issue right now? A partner picks up, any hour.
A carefully chosen set of client programmes — launches, turnarounds and reputation rebuilds — showing how a clear narrative, placed with the right editor, changes what a market believes about a business.

Client stories placed in the past twelve months
SWP was built by people who used to sit on the newsroom side of the call. That shapes everything about how we work.
We pitch stories editors can defend in a conference meeting. We tell clients when an announcement is not news yet, even when they have already booked the photographer. And we never send a release we would have deleted ourselves.
Eleven people, no account-executive layer, no franchise partners. The person who wins your business is the person who runs it — which is also why we take twelve clients at a time and no more.
Six practices, one team. Most clients start with two and grow into the rest as the company gets louder and the questions get harder.
Named relationships at the desks that matter to your category, worked properly — embargoes, exclusives, and follow-up that does not pester.
A senior partner on the line within the hour, a holding statement inside three, and a plan for the week the story does not die.
Turning a founder or CIO into someone editors call first — through argued bylines, conference slots and a point of view worth quoting.
Announcement architecture for funding rounds, products and market entries — sequenced so each beat lands instead of competing with the last.
The quieter audience. Analyst briefings, results-day messaging, and coverage that supports a valuation story rather than confusing it.
The document everything else depends on: what you stand for, what you refuse to claim, and the twelve sentences the whole company can repeat.
No agency should pitch a journalist in week one. Here is the sequence we run on every retainer, and roughly how long each part takes.
We read every mention, interview your team and your three loudest customers, and map who is already writing about your category.
One message house, one spokesperson brief, one honest list of the questions you cannot answer yet. Signed off before anything goes out.
Target list, story angles per outlet, and a rolling calendar of pitches, exclusives and reactive comment opportunities.
Coverage becomes sales collateral, LinkedIn posts, investor updates and award entries — so one feature works six times.
Share of voice, message pull-through and inbound attribution reported monthly. Every quarter we rewrite what is not working.
Published so you can rule us in or out before you spend a call on it. Every figure is a starting point — scope changes it, and we will say so on the first conversation.
From $18,000Fixed fee, 6–10 weeks
One announcement done properly — a funding round, a product launch, a market entry. A good way to find out whether you like working with us.
From $6,500 / monthSix-month minimum term
The full media programme, run continuously. This is how most clients work with us, and where the compounding happens — relationships take months, not weeks.
From $2,400 / monthAnnual term, one-hour response
For companies that are fine until they are not. We hold your scenario plans, know your regulator, and pick up at any hour.
SWP is deliberately senior-heavy. There is no handover to a team you have not met.
Twelve years on business desks before founding SWP. Runs the narrative work and every crisis retainer.
Builds the target lists and the angles. Known for placing stories nobody thought were stories.
Former regulatory affairs counsel. Writes the holding statement while everyone else is still reading the email.
Media training, bylines and keynote positioning. Has coached forty-plus founders through first interviews.
Answered honestly, including the ones where the honest answer is not the one you were hoping for.
Our average is 38 days from kickoff to a first tier-one feature, but that number hides a lot. If you have a live announcement and a spokesperson who is ready, it can be three weeks. If we need to build the narrative first — which is most companies — six to ten weeks is realistic. Anyone promising coverage in week one is pitching before they understand your business.
No, and be wary of anyone who does. Editorial coverage is not ours to sell — a journalist decides. What we guarantee is the work: the target list, the angles, the pitches sent, the follow-ups made, and an honest report of what landed and what did not. An agency that guarantees placements is either buying them or counting low-quality syndication as a win.
Six months on a retainer. Media relationships compound, and a three-month engagement ends right as the work starts paying. If six months is too much before you know us, take a project sprint instead — fixed fee, defined end. Roughly a third of our retainer clients started that way.
The partner who pitches you. There is no account-executive layer and no handover after signing. It is also why we cap the roster at twelve clients — the model only works if senior people have the hours.
Sometimes. The test is whether there is a story that stands up without the revenue — a genuine technical claim, a founder with a real track record, a market shift you can evidence. If the only story is that you exist, we will tell you to wait and spend the money on product instead.
Three things, reported monthly: share of voice against a named competitor set, message pull-through (did the journalist use your framing or theirs), and inbound attribution wherever your CRM can track it. We deliberately do not report advertising value equivalent — it inflates with volume and tells you nothing about whether anyone changed their mind.
You call the crisis line at the top of this page and a partner answers. Retainer and crisis-cover clients get a one-hour response commitment with a named person and a backup. For everyone else we will still pick up, but we may not have your scenario plans on file, which costs you the first few hours.
Short pieces on pitching, crisis prep and the parts of this job agencies usually keep quiet about.
We read 200 rejected pitches and found the same three habits in almost all of them.
