The brief was one sentence long: a house we can still live in at eighty. Everything else followed from it — no steps at any threshold, wider doorways throughout, a walk-in shower with blocking already in the walls for grab rails that are not needed yet.
The result does not look like an accessible house, which was the point. It looks like a low, long, well-proportioned single storey with a deep covered porch and a paved walkway that a wheelchair could use without anyone ever mentioning it.
