What to Expect on Your First Night Dive

The reef you dived this morning is a completely different place at night. Octopus hunt in the open, parrotfish sleep in mucus bubbles and plankton glows when you wave your hand.

Your torch is your voice

We use light signals instead of hand signals: a slow circle means OK, a fast side-to-side sweep means attention. Never shine a torch in another diver’s eyes.

Stay close and slow down

  • Dive the same site you dived in daylight
  • Keep your buddy within touching distance
  • Move slowly — the best encounters happen when you stop
