A luxury watch with its original box, warranty card and service history can be worth a third more than the identical watch without them. That gap surprises people, because the watch itself is the same object either way.
The reason is downstream. Whoever buys it next will ask for the paperwork, and without it they will discount for the risk that the movement was replaced, the dial is a service dial, or the piece is not what it claims to be. That discount rolls all the way back to the counter.
If you have the box in a loft somewhere, it is genuinely worth the trip home. Spare links matter too — a bracelet missing links is worth less because the next owner may not fit it. And if you have nothing at all, that is fine: we will still open the case back, verify the movement and give you a real number. It will just be a number that reflects what the next buyer will ask.
