Most people are surprised by two things when they sell gold: how much a small amount weighs up to, and how little the condition matters. A snapped chain, a single earring and a bent ring are all worth exactly the same as neat pieces once they are on the scale.
We test every item with an XRF analyser rather than an acid scratch, so nothing gets damaged and the karat reading is exact. The scale faces you. The day’s spot price is posted on the wall and on the screen, and we show you the arithmetic between the two.
If a piece is worth more as jewellery than as scrap — a signed designer setting, an antique mount, a good stone — we will say so and price it that way instead. Melting something that should not be melted is the fastest way to lose a customer.
