The Cheapest Days to Move, and the Ones to Avoid

Couple packing moving boxes at home

Moving prices follow demand, and demand is predictable. Most leases end on the last day of the month, most families want to move in summer, and most people prefer a weekend. Avoid all three and you can save real money on the same move.

The cheapest days to move

  • Tuesday to Thursday, in the middle of the month.
  • October to April, outside school holidays.
  • Early-morning start times, when crews are fresh and traffic is light.

The days to avoid

The last three days and first two days of any month are the busiest of the year for movers, followed by summer weekends and the week of a public holiday. Prices are higher and slots disappear early.

How far ahead to book

For a local move, two to three weeks is usually enough. For long-distance moves or anything between May and September, book four to six weeks ahead to get the date you want.

Because our quotes are flat-rate, the price you lock in does not change if moving day runs long. Check your date and price in under two minutes.
