Basic Valuation vs Full-Value Protection, Explained

Moving box labelled fragile

Every licensed mover must offer two levels of liability. They sound similar, but they pay out very differently if something is damaged, so it is worth understanding the difference before moving day.

Basic valuation (released value)

Included at no extra cost. It pays by weight, not by value — typically 60 cents per pound per item. A 10-pound television worth $800 would be covered for just $6.

Full-value protection

The mover is responsible for the replacement value of anything lost or damaged. We repair the item, replace it with a similar one, or pay its current market value.

  • Worth it for electronics, antiques, artwork and newer furniture.
  • Worth it for long-distance moves with more handling.
  • Often unnecessary if most of your furniture is older and low value.

How claims work with us

Report any issue within 30 days. Our claims team responds within two business days and will repair, replace or reimburse the item. Full-value protection is available on every moving package.
