Rigging a camera 48 metres up and leaving it there

Day 204 · Borneo · 1 min read

Four rigs, forty-eight metres up, left running for nine months on solar and a very large battery. One was destroyed by a lightning strike in month three. The other three delivered the footage that episode three is built from.

What we would change: the housings needed a better vent, because condensation cost us roughly six weeks of usable frames across two of the rigs. And the mounting straps should have been checked at four months rather than six.

The advantage of an unattended rig is that nothing about the animal changes because you are there — because you are not.
