We moved camp twice because the ice would not hold

Day 338 · High Arctic · 1 min read

Our guide keeps his family records in a school exercise book. The first freeze date is written down for every year since 1974, and the trend in it is not subtle.

This year it arrived later than any of them. We moved camp twice, lost eleven shooting days, and spent most of a fortnight listening to a surface that would not settle.

That waiting is the episode. There was no version of this film that could honestly have been about anything else.
