Air Moves, Nothing Cools
The fan sounds healthy but the room never drops. Nine times out of ten this is a tired capacitor, a dirty condenser face or a charge that has slowly walked out through a joint.
How we trace it
Cooling is the only trade we practise. One specialism, gauges on every fault, and a van carrying the parts that actually fail — which is why most callouts finish without a second appointment.
See the cooling work we take onThree details is all we need. An engineer rings you inside one working hour.
In a hurry? Ring +1 (000) 555-555 — the phone always beats a form.
Licensed, insured, and someone picks up until midnight.
Who is behind the van
SWP opened in 2011 with a single van, a battered set of manifold gauges and a refusal to sell replacements to people who only needed a part. Fourteen summers later the rule has not moved: measure the fault, show the reading, then talk about money.
Every engineer on the payroll works on cooling equipment alone. Nobody splits their week between boilers and condensers, so the ninth diagnosis of the day is as sharp as the first.
Sound familiar
Telling us which one matches your unit lets the engineer load the right spares before setting off, and it shortens the visit considerably.
The fan sounds healthy but the room never drops. Nine times out of ten this is a tired capacitor, a dirty condenser face or a charge that has slowly walked out through a joint.
How we trace itIce on the copper or the indoor coil is a symptom, never the illness. Starved airflow and low refrigerant both look identical from the outside, and only pressures tell them apart.
What we checkPuddles under the indoor head, a grinding bearing, a musty draught on start-up. These rarely stop the unit today, and they reliably become the expensive fault next month.
Book a lookHow we work
Swapping components until the cold returns is quick, expensive and dishonest. We would rather spend forty minutes with gauges and a clamp meter and hand you one part to pay for instead of four.
Subcooling, superheat, amp draw and delta-T are written down before anything is opened. Those four numbers settle most arguments about what is actually wrong.
Should a joint we brazed or a board we fitted let go through our own error, we come back and put it right without an invoice.
Run capacitors, contactors, float switches, fan motors and a charging kit live in the van, because those five items cover the bulk of summer failures.
Five readings, one conclusion: the charge had walked out through a weeping flare joint. The compressor was drawing exactly what the plate says it should. Quoted as a repair, not a replacement.
An anonymised record from a callout last August.
The job list
Domestic splits, shop ceiling cassettes, window boxes and small packaged units. If it makes cold air, it belongs on this page.
Dead unit on the hottest afternoon of the year. Diagnosed, priced and, in most cases, running again the same day.
Nitrogen pressure test, electronic sniffer, dye where needed. We seal the escape route before any gas goes back in.
Hard-start faults, humming without rotation, tripping breakers. Electrical work carried out and tested under load.
Single heads, multi-head systems and older sleeve units all get the same treatment, whoever installed them originally.
Blocked condensate lines, matted evaporator fins, filters nobody has lifted since installation. Cleaned, flushed and re-tested.
Short cycling, a room that reads five degrees wrong, remotes that talk to nothing. Wiring and sensors verified end to end.
When it cannot wait
A nursery, a server cupboard, a bedroom with a newborn in it — some rooms simply have to come down in temperature tonight. Our late line is staffed by an engineer, not an answering service, and there is no premium added to weekend or evening labour.
Call the urgent lineMoney, up front
Quotes for a new unit are free, always. Cover plans run month to month, so nothing traps you into a second year you did not want.
One fault, one visit. The fee disappears from the bill if you accept the repair while we are there.
A spring service, cheaper parts and no callout fee when something does go wrong.
Built for salons, cafés, server rooms and let properties where warm air costs real money.
Rates apply across our published coverage map. Components are itemised separately and never fitted until you have said yes to the figure. Larger replacements can be spread over twelve or twenty-four months, subject to approval.
The honest question
Almost every caller wants this settled before anything else. Here is the reasoning our engineers apply on the doorstep, so you can weigh it up in advance.
Undecided? Photograph the data plate and send it over. We will give you a straight answer by phone before anyone gets in a van. Ask for a second opinion
Start to finish
Tell us what the unit does and when it started. Plain language is fine — the engineer translates.

Ask a questionIn their words
Where the vans go
Running from one workshop keeps our travel short and our diary honest, so the slot we promise is the slot you get. Sitting a few miles beyond the towns below is rarely a problem — ring us and we will tell you straight away whether a van is already nearby. No mileage is added anywhere inside the city boundary.
The long version
Not urgent, or want to brief us properly first? This is the longer form — model numbers, history, which rooms are affected. The more you write, the better stocked the van arrives.
Nothing is billed until an engineer stands in front of the equipment and you have agreed a figure. Replies go out the same working day, Monday to Saturday.
Ask us anything
Three culprits account for the vast majority: a failed run capacitor stopping the compressor while the fan carries on, a condenser choked with dust and cottonwood, or refrigerant that has slowly escaped. Pressures tell us which within twenty minutes, and only one of the three is expensive.
You pay the diagnosis fee and nothing more, and you keep the written findings and the readings to show anyone else. Accept the work on the day and that fee comes straight off the invoice.
Refrigerant does not get consumed, so a low charge always means it has gone somewhere. Pumping more in without sealing the escape wastes your money and vents gas into the atmosphere. We locate and repair the leak first, then weigh in an accurate charge.
Once each spring covers a domestic split used through the warm months. Shops, salons and anything running most of the year benefit from a second visit in autumn. Missing it seldom breaks anything overnight; it quietly shortens compressor life and pushes your running cost up.
Nearly always, yes. The one exception is equipment inside a manufacturer warranty that names an approved installer. In that situation we say so openly and send you back to them rather than risk voiding your cover.
No cooling with the forecast above ninety, a burning smell, water dripping through a ceiling, or a room holding medication, livestock or server equipment. Those get a same-evening visit. Everything else is booked into the next working day at ordinary rates.
Leave a number and an engineer rings you back inside one working hour — no charge until you have agreed a figure.
