People ask how long a vial lasts. The honest answer is that the question is usually the wrong one: a well-stored vial keeps for years, and a badly stored one can be finished in a single warm August.
The three things that do damage
- Heat. A car door in summer routinely passes 50°C. Nothing survives that well.
- Direct light. Amber glass slows it. It does not stop it. A dark cupboard beats a sunny windowsill by a wide margin.
- Strong smells. Storing a case next to camphor, menthol or a bottle of essential oil is a bad idea, and one that is easy to avoid.
Where to actually keep it
A drawer or a cupboard in a room that does not get hot, away from the cooker and away from the bathroom. That is the whole of it. Our winter drawer set exists precisely because a kitchen drawer is where most people want the six they reach for.
