A mother tincture is where everything else on our shelves begins: plant material macerated in alcohol and water, pressed, filtered, and bottled undiluted. Every potency of that remedy is made from it.
How it differs from a potency
A 30C has been diluted and succussed thirty times. A mother tincture has not been diluted at all. They are used differently, dispensed differently — by the drop rather than by the pillule — and priced differently, by volume.
When people buy them
Usually on a practitioner’s instruction, or for topical use where the tincture is the preparation being asked for. If you are not sure which you have been told to buy, the label will say: ours read “mother tincture” in full, never an abbreviation.
