Both techniques brighten your hair, but they get there in very different ways. Here is how to choose before your colour consultation.
Balayage: soft and lived-in
Balayage is painted on by hand, so the lightness melts gradually from root to tip. It grows out softly, which means fewer salon visits — usually every 12 to 16 weeks.
Highlights: brighter and more uniform
Foil highlights lift the hair more evenly from closer to the root. They give a brighter, more structured result and need a refresh every 6 to 10 weeks.
