If you believe you have been dismissed unfairly, time is the most important factor. Most employment claims have strict limits, and a missed deadline can end a strong claim before it starts.
Note the date
Write down the date you were told about your dismissal and the date your employment ended. The limitation period usually runs from the effective date of termination.
Keep the evidence
Save your contract, emails, messages, appraisals and any letters about the dismissal. Make a timeline of events while they are fresh in your mind.
Use the internal appeal
If your employer offers an appeal, use it. Failing to do so can reduce the compensation you receive.
Take advice before signing anything
A settlement agreement may be offered. Have it reviewed before you sign, because it will usually waive your right to bring a claim.
