The photos will outlive every trend on your mood board, so start with colours you already love in your home and wardrobe. A palette that feels like you will still feel like you when you show the album to your grandchildren.
Begin with the venue
Stone, timber, gilt or garden green: the venue is the largest colour on the day. Pick two tones that sit comfortably beside it, then one accent you are happy to see in every photograph.
Use the accent sparingly
The accent belongs in the flowers, the stationery and perhaps the bridesmaids’ ribbons. Repeated in small doses it ties the day together; used everywhere it starts to date.
Test it in candlelight
Most receptions end by candlelight. Hold your fabric and flower samples under warm light before you commit — blush can turn grey and ivory can turn yellow.
