Six documents that hold up more applications than bad credit does

In our own files, the single most common cause of a delayed completion is not a credit event. It is a document that arrived incomplete, undated, or in a format the lender cannot accept.

The usual six

  1. The missing page of a tax return. Lenders need every page, including the ones that say nothing.
  2. An undated gift letter. It must name the giver, state the funds are not repayable, and be dated before the transfer.
  3. A screenshot instead of a statement. It needs the account holder’s name, the account number and the period, all visible.
  4. A large unexplained deposit. Anything unusual needs a paper trail; sourcing it after the fact is far slower.
  5. An expired identification document. Check the date before you send it, not after.
  6. A payslip that predates the application by more than a month. Freshness rules are strict and rarely flexible.

None of these are difficult. All of them are quicker to get right the first time than to correct at week three.
