ICSI

A single sperm is injected directly into each mature egg. Recommended when sperm count or movement is low, or when fertilisation failed in a previous IVF cycle.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a lab technique used within an IVF cycle. Instead of leaving eggs and sperm together in a dish, our embryologist selects a single healthy sperm and injects it directly into each mature egg under a high-powered microscope.

When we recommend ICSI

  • Low sperm count, poor motility or abnormal shape
  • Sperm retrieved surgically
  • Fertilisation failed or was low in a previous IVF cycle
  • Using frozen eggs

For you, an ICSI cycle feels exactly like IVF. The difference happens in the lab on the day of egg retrieval.
