Cupping & gua sha

Cupping & gua sha

Cupping uses silicone or glass cups to create gentle suction over tight muscle, lifting the tissue and drawing stagnant blood to the surface. Gua sha uses a smooth-edged tool to scrape along the same areas. Both are often added to the end of an acupuncture session.

The round marks they leave are not bruises — they are painless, and fade within three to seven days. Drink plenty of water afterwards and keep the area warm.

Best for: stiff shoulders and upper back, heavy legs after training, and chest tightness at the start of a cold.
