Ask a local host where they swim on a day off and you will rarely hear the name of a famous beach. These seven spots are the ones our team actually goes to — calm, uncrowded and worth the short walk.
1. Pier Cove, Blue Lagoon Coast
Waist-deep turquoise water for a hundred metres and a wooden pier for jumping. Arrive before 10am for shade under the sea grapes.
2. Turtle Steps
A rocky entry that keeps the crowds away. Bring reef shoes and a mask — green turtles feed here most mornings.
3. Lighthouse Bay
Best reached by kayak at low tide from the Lagoon View jetty. No facilities, so pack water and take everything home.
Before you go
- Check the tide table in your welcome guide
- Reef-safe sunscreen only — it is the law at two of these beaches
- Ask your host for the parking spots locals use
The best beach is the one you have to yourself at 8am. — Maria, guest experience lead
