Start with your feet
Most adults land between 8.0" and 8.5". If your shoe size is US 9 to 11, an 8.25" deck is a safe first pick.
Then think about where you skate
Narrower decks flip faster for technical street skating. Wider decks feel calmer in bowls, on ramps and when cruising.
Do not overthink it
The best first board is the one you ride every day. Pick a sensible width, get it set up properly and go skate.
