The clients loved their street of 1920s brick houses and wanted a new home that would sit comfortably among them.
The brief
The clients came to the studio with a site in Ann Arbor, MI, a fixed budget and a long list of the ways they wanted to live or work there. We spent the first weeks on site, recording sun paths, views, neighbours and drainage before drawing a single line.
The design
From the street the house reads as a simple gabled brick volume. Behind it, the ground floor opens fully to the garden under a deep timber canopy.
Materials and light
Reclaimed red brick laid in a Flemish bond, timber windows and a slate roof, all chosen to age alongside the neighbours.
Brickfield Residence was delivered on the agreed fee schedule, with the same lead architect from the first sketch to the final walkthrough.
