A careful closing protects your plumbing and makes next spring’s opening faster and cheaper. These are the steps we follow on every winterization.
Balance and clean before you close
Balance the water a few days ahead, then brush, vacuum and shock. Clean water going under the cover means clearer water coming out in spring.
Protect the plumbing
- Lower the water below the skimmer
- Blow out every line and plug the returns
- Add pool-safe antifreeze where needed
- Drain the pump, filter and heater
- Store drain plugs somewhere you will find them
Cover it properly
Fit a tight winter cover and keep it clear of standing water and leaves through the season. A neglected cover is the most common cause of a green spring opening.
