Questions we answer most days

How much does a callout cost?

The diagnostic fee is flat and quoted when you book. Approve the repair on the same visit and that fee comes off the final invoice. Decide not to proceed and you still keep the written diagnosis and the readings, with nothing further to pay.

My system is fifteen years old. Repair or replace?

Our rule of thumb: if one repair costs more than a third of a replacement and the unit is past twelve years, replacement usually wins on total cost within four years. It also depends on the refrigerant it uses and how well the ductwork was built, so we run the numbers for your specific unit and show you both columns.

How often should maintenance happen?

Twice a year for equipment that both heats and cools, once before summer and once before winter. Annual service is fine for cooling-only systems in light use. Skipping it rarely causes an immediate failure; it shortens compressor life and quietly raises your running cost.

Do you handle permits and rebate paperwork?

Yes. Replacement work in Springfield generally needs a mechanical permit and we pull it as part of the job. For heat pump conversions we also prepare the utility rebate submission with the equipment serial numbers already filled in.

Can you service a system another company installed?

Almost always. The exception is equipment still inside a manufacturer warranty that requires a specific authorised dealer. In that case we say so plainly and point you back to them rather than void your cover.

What counts as an emergency?

No heat below freezing, no cooling above ninety degrees, any smell of gas, any burning smell, or water actively leaking onto a ceiling. Anything on that list gets a same-night response. Everything else is scheduled for the next working day at standard rates.

The real question

Repair it, or replace it?

This is what almost every caller actually wants settled. Here is the reasoning we use on site, so you can start working it out before we arrive.

Repair usually wins when

  • The system is under ten years old and has not failed before
  • The quote comes to less than a third of a replacement
  • The fault is a wear part: capacitor, contactor, igniter, blower motor
  • Your ductwork is sound and the unit was correctly sized
  • You are likely to move within two or three years

Replacement usually wins when

  • The unit is past twelve years and needs a second major repair
  • It still runs on R-22, which is no longer produced
  • The compressor or heat exchanger has failed
  • Bills climb every summer while comfort gets worse
  • Rebates and financing bring the monthly cost close to the repair
