The courtyard was a slab of grey gravel with a single struggling bay tree. We lifted the lot, re-graded for drainage, and cut six deep beds around a small area of clipped lawn.
Planting is deliberately layered for succession: snowdrops and hellebores under the boundary, a long run of hardy geraniums and salvias through the middle of the year, and asters holding the border into late October.
