Most people know their sun sign. Far fewer know their Moon and rising sign, which is a pity, because together these three placements explain most of what a horoscope column cannot.
The Sun: what drives you
The Sun describes your core motivation — what you are building towards and what makes you feel most like yourself. It is the part of you that grows clearer with age.
The Moon: what you need
The Moon describes your emotional needs and instinctive reactions: what comforts you, what unsettles you, and how you behave when you are tired. Two people with the same sun sign can feel completely different because their Moons differ.
The rising sign: how you meet the world
The rising sign, or ascendant, is the sign on the eastern horizon at your birth. It colours first impressions, your style and the way you approach new situations.
Putting them together
- A fire Sun with a water Moon often acts boldly but feels deeply afterwards.
- An earth rising can make an airy Sun seem calmer than it is.
- When all three share an element, that element tends to define the whole personality.
You need your birth time to find your rising sign. Once you have it, read your weekly horoscope for both your Sun and your rising sign — the second one is often surprisingly accurate.
