What exactly does the rate include?<\/strong> Vessel, crew and fuel is the usual answer, but the fuel range matters enormously. A boat that includes twenty miles and one that includes forty-five are not comparable numbers.<\/p>\n Who pays for berths away from home port?<\/strong> On most contracts, you do. That is normal \u2014 but the difference between a quiet anchorage and a marina berth in high season is real money, and it should be discussed before you plan the route.<\/p>\n Is there a delivery or repositioning fee?<\/strong> If the boat has to move to meet you, someone is paying for that.<\/p>\n What is the cancellation ladder?<\/strong> Not just the headline, but the dates. Sixty days is common. What happens at thirty?<\/p>\n Is the crew gratuity expected, and how much?<\/strong> Ten to fifteen per cent is the Mediterranean convention. Being told this in advance is much better than working it out on the last morning.<\/p>\n Who has final say on the weather?<\/strong> It should be the captain, in writing.<\/p>\n What happens if the boat breaks?<\/strong> A serious operator will offer a replacement vessel or a refund, and will tell you which before you ask.<\/p>\n Are children and pets allowed on this specific boat?<\/strong> Owner rules vary and are rarely on the listing.<\/p>\n Can I speak to the captain before I pay a balance?<\/strong> If the answer is no, ask why.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Fuel basis, delivery fees and crew gratuity are where most disputes start.
