A non-slip mat inside the bath or shower. A raised toilet seat with arms. A nightlight on the route from the bed to the bathroom, on a sensor rather than a switch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then fit grab rails \u2014 properly, into a stud or with the right fixings for the wall type, never into tile alone. A rail that comes away in someone&#8217;s hand is worse than no rail at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, look at what people reach for when there is no rail: towel radiators, sinks and shower doors. Anything that has clearly been used as a handhold is telling you exactly where a rail should go.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most falls that end in hospital happen within two metres of a toilet or a bath.
