By the end of last year, thirty-one groups were contributing, the church had leased a small unit behind the hall, and 412 families had been served \u2014 a little over 9,000 individual grocery packages.<\/p>\n<p>The part we did not expect: the pantry became the front door. Roughly one in nine of the families who came for groceries came back for something else \u2014 a small group, a service, a conversation with a pastor. Nobody was asked to.
