How Our Small Groups Fed 400 Families Last Year

It began with one Tuesday-night group buying an extra bag of groceries each week for a family they knew.

By the end of that first year, six groups had joined in. By the end of last year, thirty-one groups were contributing, the church had leased a small unit behind the hall, and 412 families had been served — a little over 9,000 individual grocery packages.

The part we did not expect: the pantry became the front door. Roughly one in nine of the families who came for groceries came back for something else — a small group, a service, a conversation with a pastor. Nobody was asked to. The bag was never a transaction.

If you would like to join in, every group has a pantry link and the unit needs volunteers on Thursday afternoons.
