Time of day, cloud cover and what a surface is made of all shift the picture, so we send daylight frames alongside every thermal one.

A dark membrane that has been in the sun all afternoon will read hot for hours after sunset. A metal flashing strip will read cold next to the same membrane simply because it sheds heat faster. Neither is a fault.

What is worth looking at is a pattern that does not match the construction: a warm patch that stops at no obvious boundary, a cold line running against the fall of the roof, a single panel in an array that is out of step with its neighbours.

That is why the daylight twin matters. Read them together and most of the false alarms answer themselves.

Warm does not always mean broken.
