Ask for a photograph with the case back open. The serial number on the movement should match the period of the case, and the jewels, balance and hairspring should look undisturbed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then look at the case. Hallmarks on a gold or silver case tell you where and when it was assayed. Worn hinges and dents are normal; a mismatched bow or a replaced crystal should be in the condition report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, the paperwork.
